Sanctuary

The 15,000 square foot sanctuary and social hall building at Temple Beth Shalom offers a variety of settings for our community to gather.

A bright and spacious lobby provides a warm introduction to our building, while helping large crowds flow into the sanctuary and social hall.

The lobby can be used for smaller events, such as classes and informal gatherings. It also connects to the school building, allowing easy access for religious school and early childhood program. The lobby and sanctuary are joined by a vestibule designed to transition visitors from the din of the everyday world into the sacred space of the sanctuary. Here is our Yahrzeit memorial wall, as well as a niche with service programs, tallitot and kipot available for use during our services.

Our formal sanctuary, with seating for 323 people, is arranged to convey feelings of intimacy and community. The sleek lines of the raised bimah provide a beautiful setting for our Torah ark. Its spiritual atmosphere is enhanced by a soaring, twenty-six foot ceiling and hidden windows that flood the bimah with ambient light. An attached family room allows parents to hear and see the service while attending to infants and small children. The room is not sound-proof and is not meant as a play room or teen lounge. Please read the rules posted in the room. Our sanctuary and social hall are separated by a movable, acoustically-rated partition. When the partition is open for High Holidays and other large functions, the building has total capacity of 850 seats.

Additional temple amenities include; an outdoor courtyard where we build our sukkah, and host religious school and social functions, a large parking lot, and a relatively flat property, easily navigated by people with limited mobility.

School Building

Temple Beth Shalom’s school building is outfitted with 11 large classrooms, as well as a kitchen and workroom space. The classrooms are colorful, and friendly and are great spaces to learn, play and grow. During the day, the rooms are alive with the sights and sounds of busy young children. Our Early Childhood Program offers quality education through play. The rooms are fully equipped with age-appropriate toys and cheerful décor. At night and on the weekends, our classrooms are transformed into learning environments for our older students.

Just outside the school is a safe and fun playground space that entertains our children with slides and climbing structures that make us all feel a little more playful. If you are considering enrolling your child in Temple Beth Shalom early childhood programs, and would like to tour our school facilities, we encourage you to contact the Director of Early Childhood Programs, Adrienne Roth or our Director of Education Ellyn B. Kaufman.

Judaica Shop

Temple Beth Shalom’s Judaica Shop has been managed by our temple Sisterhood. The shop has Jewish books, gifts, ritual objects, and more. It is located between our school wing and our sanctuary. Reading Room

Temple Beth Shalom is committed to teaching our community in the classroom, as well as providing materials that help self-directed exploration and learning. Our reading room, located across from the temple office, has a collection of books on Jewish theology, practice, and history, as well as biographies and novels. We also have a significant number of classic texts, a small reference collection, and periodicals. Our collection is especially strong in life cycle events including baby naming, b’nai mitzvah, weddings, conversion, and death and mourning rituals. The reading room has free wireless internet access and computer access. Stop in to browse the collection, look for a particular book, or just work on the computer. We also encourage you to take advantage of the vast network of Judaica available online. Check out our resources page for an excellent listing of quality websites related to Judaism.
